Abstract
Parabolic troughs are the most economic type of solarthermal power plants working
by concentrating solar power. The collector elements are the most influencing factor
concerning the cost effectiveness of the whole power plant. State of the art is to construct
the collectors as spatial steel truss systems with point-wise supported mirrors.
Alternatives to this construction principle exist.
In the thesis at hand the feasibility of an economic way of constructing of an economic
execution of the parabolic troughs while using concrete as construction material
was analyzed.
The spectrum of the discussed questions is large. One focus was put on the conception
of a suitable concrete and the connected challenges concerning the concrete
technology. These were always to be considered under the aspect of a fast development
of the strength. Furthermore, a full-size demonstrator was planned and built,
which shows the construction method of a parabolic trough collector element using
high-strength concrete. Two innovations are immanent: On the one hand, the use of
the construction material concrete, on the other hand its novel supporting concept.
The completed full-size demonstrator was evaluated regarding its intercept factor (a
parameter by which the efficiency factor of the system is influenced) by using a precision
analysis using optical measurement methods. Another examined aspect is the
dimensional accuracy and stability of concrete because by deviations from the target
geometry the intercept factor of a parabolic trough is reduced. By means of numerical
methods the deflections, which result under realistic conditions at a suitable location,
were analyzed and in due form of a mathematical effectiveness assessment interpreted.
